The Volkswagen Passat has two engines. The standard is a 2.0L turbocharged with 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft torque to get you going in Crestview traffic. If you prefer a little more getup, there's an all-new 3.6L V6 option with 280 horsepower, 258 lb-ft torque, and a tuned suspension for a more exhilarating experience.

We aren't expecting the Passat to perform at the same level as a crossover when it comes to cargo capabilities, but it's worth noting how spacious the model is. This makes it a perfect choice for families who need room for car seats (or room for teens to stretch out), but still like a low to the ground vehicle. Helpful and available features for loading gear include a hands-free trunk (just wave your foot underneath the rear bumper) and a rear pass through to use if you want to bring a beach umbrella down to the Pensacola or Panama City coastlines.

Safety Features

In recent years, we've seen a push for advanced safety technologies, and while they are no replacement for safe driving skills, it's always nice to have a helping "hand" when you're behind the wheel. The Passat has a Driver Assistance package. Features include:Blind spot monitoringRear cross-traffic alertForward collision warning with automatic emergency brakingThese are standard on all trims except for the base model, however shoppers can add on the package. Other aids include adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and two to help with parking which are park assist and park pilot. Whether you're in familiar Gulf Breeze, or traveling on the highway, you can feel extra secure thanks to these technologies!

The Trim-Level Lineup

The Passat is available in several trims: S, R-Line, SE & SE with Technology, V6 GT, and SEL & SEL V6 Premium.

S: Perfect for shoppers on a budget or those like their car on the laidback side. You'll get automatic lights, a rearview camera, a power-adjusting driver seat, Bluetooth, and a 5-inch touchscreen. As a reminder, you can add on more advanced safety features with the Driver Assistance package.

R-Line: this trim has notably larger wheels (19-inches versus the S's 16-inch wheels) and a revised front and rear bumper, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with shift paddles, and while it doesn't get New England cold, on cooler mornings in Navarre you can heat up your leatherette seats. Besides, isn't "cold" relative? The R-Line also has a larger 6.5-inch touchscreen and with the Car-Net function you can use Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

SE: This is one of the more popular trims at our dealership. There's 17-inch wheels, a sunroof you can truly enjoy year-round, and keyless entry and go. We also love the addition of adaptive cruise control. SE with Technology: another popular option, this trim actually adds quite a bit onto the SE. Highlights include LED and fog lights, the hands-free trunk opener, front and rear parking sensors, and navigation so you can go on adventures and always find your way home. If it fits your budget, this is a trim worth considering.

GT: this option is new for 2018. You get the larger R-Line wheels and revised bumpers, a sport-tuned suspension, and the more powerful V6 engine. You'll also love the upscale interior with two-tone leatherette seats that will surely be a conversation starter.

SEL: on the top-trim you'll get a lot of amenities including power-folding mirrors, genuine leather seats, a premium audio system by Fender, and the pass-through feature for those aforementioned beach umbrellas. Cool tech additions include automated parallel parking (get it right the first time!) and lane departure warning. You can also get the V6 engine.
