What’s New in the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI?

2025 Volkswagen Jetta

The Jetta (and its souped-up GLI sister) has been a staple on American roads for decades, thanks in no small part to its incredible value. There just aren’t many other cars that can offer quite the same blend of practical fuel efficiency, user-friendly tech, and unmistakable style, which is probably why it’s VW’s best-seller for car shoppers near Destin, FL.

You don’t become one of the most beloved automakers by resting on your laurels, and in that spirit, Volkswagen has announced that they’ll be making some changes to the 2025 Jetta to keep it up-to-date in the U.S. market. Here’s a rundown of what you can expect when it hits our Fort Walton dealership in the coming months.

Performance

We’ll go ahead and rip this band-aid off first: The 2025 Jetta will no longer be available with a six-speed manual transmission. Yeah, we’re a little bummed too. Thankfully, the Jetta GLI retains its standard six-speed gearbox, and this should be enough to satisfy performance enthusiasts.

Aside from that, the well-loved mechanical aspects of the Jetta remain the same. The standard model still has its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which creates 158 horsepower and is now paired solely with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GLI keeps its 2.0-liter with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and it can also be optioned with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Official stats for the fuel economy of the 2025 Jetta haven’t been released, but we expect it to be on par with the 2024 model with automatic transmission, which gets up to 30 MPG city and 41 MPG highway.

Exterior

Take one look at the new Jetta, and you’ll notice the difference immediately. The upper front grille has been reduced in size, which makes for a more modern visage and gives the VW emblem a more satisfying pop than before. The LED headlights have been reshaped, giving it a more commanding presence, and a new light bar is available on the upper trim levels. The taillights have also been drastically altered to a light bar style, which imparts a decidedly more futuristic vibe.

New wheels and colors are available as well. The SE and GLI can be optioned with new blacked-out wheel packages, and new paint colors include Monument Gray and Monterey Blue Pearl.

Jetta GLI interior

Interior

The dashboard maintains the general contours and angles of the previous year, but aesthetically, it’s been totally redone, giving a simultaneous sense of cohesion and newness. The standard 8.0-inch touch screen display now floats above the dash line, giving it more prominence and a better line of sight for safety’s sake, and the center column is still angled ever so slightly toward the driver. Below, the dial-based climate controls have been replaced by Climatronic® Touch controls.

The cabin is replete with new materials and color schemes, which change depending on the trim, and the Jetta GLI boasts shockingly comfortable perforated Vienna leather seating.

Tech

Aside from the newly designed touch screen display and touch climate controls, the 2025 Jetta brings a refreshed array of standard features to lower trims, increasing the overall value even further. Wireless App-Connect, wireless device charging, SiriusXM, and voice control are now part of the SE package, and a sunroof is available as well.

Standard IQ.DRIVE returns at all trim levels, enabling advanced driver assistance features like enabling Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance), Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring), Active Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).

Value

The full pricing structure has yet to be released, but despite all of the improvements and additions, the 2025 Jetta’s starting MSRP will be only $21,995, which is actually less than the starting price of last year’s automatic transmission model. It also retains its selection of trims from the previous year:

  • S
  • Sport
  • SE
  • SEL

Currently, it’s not known if the 2025 Jetta GLI will come in any available special editions like the 2024 Jetta GLI Autobahn. But, hey, we can hope.
